What do you love most about holiday makeup?

I love that during the holidays you can play up a little more shimmery eyes without it being over the top. I love when I see someone on the street wearing translucent highlights and the sun hitting their eyes every time they blink, or even just on social media – those little things that appeal to me so much.

What are the key elements you always include when doing these looks on your clients?

Doing holiday glamor is one of the easiest ways to do makeup for me, as I mostly focus on creating beautiful, glowing skin. I don’t usually use too much shadow on the eyes, just a very clean contour color to shape and define the lid, depending on how my clients like their eye shapes to be constructed. Then I like to add just a little mascara.

I also like to use fun and bold lipsticks that you don’t usually wear as often in other months. During the holidays, I use a burgundy or very nice bright red lipstick on my clients. I feel like it emphasizes the whole look more, since the skin is so shiny and dewy, and there aren’t too many other focal points on the face; it’s really just the lips.

What holiday-specific lip shades do you always keep in your kit?

I have a bunch of products from my own brand that I often recommend for a bold lip, like our That’s Why She’s Late matte lipstick, which is a lovely red, and then we have a shade called She’s Must Be New which is one of my go- tos with burgundy undertones.

If someone has very little time to put on makeup, what would be your tips for pulling off their look?

If someone doesn’t have much time for makeup, I think the easiest way to look high and chic, and get that “girl cool” effect, is to add to that that you are already wearing. For example, if you didn’t wear too much makeup during the workday, just add a little shimmer to the eyelid – not a metallic shimmer, but more of a translucent shimmer – with your fingers, apply a few coats of mascara, and finish by a burgundy or red lip. It’s a quick and easy way to refresh your makeup effortlessly and make it look like you put a lot of effort into it.

Are there any specific holiday makeup trends you’ve seen this season?

I think something that’s trending right now and for a while is this translucent shimmer on the eyelid. My brand and others have created eye shadow palettes that really highlight natural beauty while helping to define the eyes. Super smoky eyes aren’t really that popular right now – it’s really about accentuating natural beauty, but uplifting it so it shines a lot more.
