Emily Blunt received a dose of tough love from co-star Tom Cruise during production for their hit 2014 film, edge of tomorrow.

During a podcast appearance Unintelligentthe 39-year-old British actress recalled the iconic action star telling her to ‘stop being such an asshole’.

The grueling production of the sci-fi action flick, which featured Blunt and Cruise taking on an alien species, called for stars to wear “huge” costumes to make the scenes as realistic as possible.

“We had to wear these huge costumes, which I think would have been great if we had them CGI, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way,” Blunt explained to podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. , the New York Post reported. “When you hear the word ‘touch’, you think it sounds nice and comfortable. There was nothing cozy about those costumes. It was like 85 pounds. It was so heavy. The first time I put it on I started crying and Cruise didn’t know what to do.

Blunt went on to say that she expressed concern to Cruise about how she was going to manage to pass production in an 85-pound suit that weighed her down.

“I was like, ‘Tom, I don’t know how I’m going to get through this shoot’ and I just started crying,” Blunt recalled. “I said, ‘I feel a little freaked out about the whole shoot. “”

In response to his concerns, Cruise gave it straight to Blunt: “He just looked at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he said, ‘Come on, stop being such a prick, d ‘OK?’ ”

Luckily, Blunt took the comment well and responded to Cruise with a laugh.

Blunt is no stranger to handling difficult situations while shooting movies. Her husband, actor/director John Krasinski, filmed scenes for A Quiet Place Part II, the sequel to his 2018 alien invasion thriller, A silent place, in 100 degree weather inside a coal mine. Last year, she explained that during the production of the adventure film Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson, she stepped on a nest of fire ants and covered herself in dangerous insects.

“I was in Tanzania and climbing Mount Meru and we were warned of fire ants. They’re like those giant red ants, and when they bite you, it’s…fire. So I was walking and I looked down and I had clearly walked into a nest, and I must have had a hundred just climbing my boot around my ankle,” Blunt told Yahoo Entertainment last year. Blunt approached the situation quickly, pulling her pants down in front of everyone and shaking them until the ants were scattered across the floor. “That was the scariest thing. Everyone was screaming and trying to chase them away from me. They were creeping all the way up my leg and I had a few fiery little pinches.

Clearly, Blunt’s co-stars think highly of her: Johnson called Blunt an “Indiana Jones wife” for her on-screen adventures.
