When formulating her first brand PillowtalkDerm Skincare, New York dermatologist Shereene Idriss enlisted cosmetic chemists, branding experts and 100 of her closest 443,000 Instagram followers to help her. “I casually put out a call on my Instagram and we had over 600 applications,” she says. “They each submitted a testimonial explaining why they thought they should be part of the creation and submitted photos of their skin. Afterwards, we had a PJ #PillowtalkDerm Zoom party with the whole group. It was so much fun .”

When Idriss finally launched the skincare brand in September with a two-day presale, the line sold out within 36 hours. And to her surprise, she ended up with a waiting list of 17,000 people. Now, two months after launch, the dermatologist is bringing back the best-selling line for PillowtalkDerm Skincare fans who missed the first drop.

“I want people to use these products and see a difference, both physically and emotionally,” Idriss says. “I just did a makeup-free Instagram Live and hopefully want more clients to feel confident enough to do the same using PillowTalkDerm.”

Even though it sold out quickly. PillowtalkDerm Skincare took decades to develop, says Idriss. “I’m a cosmetic dermatologist; I deal with different faces and different budgets throughout the day,” she says. “What I’ve noticed gives patients the best value for money, regardless of their skincare goals, is to even out their skin tone, and unless you live in a dark cave, it chances are you have some form of discoloration. I’m mentally exhausted from 10 or 11 step routines.” With PillowtalkDerm Skincare, results come in three easy steps.

With a focus on brightening and evening out skin tones, the first collection is called Major Fade, which features a three-step pigment-fighting system. First: Flash Mask, a resurfacing mask with a trifecta of glycolic acid, lactic acid, and tranexamic acid; second, Hyper Serum, a brightening serum that fades discoloration with alpha arbutin, kojic acid, and niacinamide; finally, the Active Seal, which contains vitamin C and other brighteners to lock in pigment reducers and prevent future dark spots. Each product also contains glycerin to keep your skin hydrated and the barrier healthy. The result is an instant glow with more results over time.

The brand name was taken from Idriss’ Instagram handle, @PillowtalkDerm. The moniker came about because dermis shared valuable skincare tips at night from the comfort of their own bed. “My pillow talk started on a whim — there was no premeditation,” she explains. “I started posting stories, and a follower said, I love these pillow talks, and I thought that was cute. It was only going to last two weeks. Four years later, I’m still talking about pillows.
