Britain Get Singing will see celebrities ‘step out of their comfort zone for charity’

ITV’s upcoming Christmas Carol Contest will see celebrities “slightly forced out of their comfort zone to raise awareness for a wonderful cause”, Jason Manford has claimed.

The comedian and singer will be part of a super panel of all-star judges for Britain Get Singing, a 90-minute special that sees famous faces compete and show off their vocal prowess.

Hosted by TV and radio presenter Roman Kemp, the show will see a number of groups made up of stars from TV’s biggest shows compete in a chant, for members of the studio audience.

The show will air on ITV and ITVX on Christmas Eve and will support Britain’s Get Talking mental health campaign.

Manford will be joined by some of television’s best-known judges, including will.i.am from The Voice UK, Alesha Dixon from Britain’s Got Talent and Adam Lambert from Starstruck.

Asked what viewers could expect from the show, he said: ‘You can expect all your favorite ITV faces to be slightly forced out of their comfort zone to raise awareness for a wonderful cause to get the word out. Britain and blackmail Britain.

“It’s a great cause to get involved in. Seeing them up there doing something they don’t normally do is a lot of fun.

“There are laughs and there are tears – it’s a truly lovely and beautiful sight.”

To help promote the importance of looking after mental well-being, the star-studded special will also feature clips in which the singers discuss their own experiences with mental health.

Manford said the level of talent displayed by celebrities was “brilliant”.

“To get all these Coronation Street stars, I don’t know how they found the time to rehearse and get it right,” he said.

“It was great to see everyone working together for a wonderful cause.”

Former Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am added, “I was blown away by the level of talent, purity of heart and love that everyone brought to this show.”

“It’s funny, moving and surprising – it’s the perfect show for the holiday season,” she said.

Britain Get Talking launched in 2019 and saw several famous faces – including Sir Captain Tom Moore, Susanna Reid and Maya Jama – talk about their personal experiences and mental health struggles.

According to ITV, research indicates that Britons have had 100 million new or more meaningful conversations as a result of the campaign, since its launch.

Susie Braun, director of ITV’s Social Purpose, said: “Since launching in 2019, Britain Get Talking has seen over a hundred of the country’s most beloved celebrities encourage the nation to connect with each other.

“Britain Get Singing will see even more people join this number as part of this Christmas gift with an important message: we can all nurture our mental wellbeing by coming together.”
